Found on BBC News :"The governor of Indonesia's tsunami-hit Aceh province has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for corruption. Abdullah Puteh was also fined $400,000 for allegedly profiting from the unauthorised purchase of a helicopter in 2001."
Indonesia has seemingly-forever been labeled as a corrupt country. The greasing of palms is the ONLY way to get things done there. It's all-pervasive, right down to the root and limb of it's people. It's in every single arm of the government, It's in the blood of anyone who will ever perform a service for you (or will perform, if you know what's good for you). Anyone who has ever done business in Indonesia will know what I mean. And that includes some Indonesians themselves, mind you.
One of the mandates that Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ran on during his campaign was the promise of less corruption. So with this, he's made a start, of sorts. It looks vaguely promising, in a way. Then again, it always look promising in the beginning, right before the Indonesians start fucking amongst themselves once more.
I just wonder if, or when, President Yudhoyono will run out of steam.
