Men - why?

I received 2 emails over the last week. From a man I had previously dated. And it's been a LONG time since I've seen him. Actually, I last saw him in 2000/2001.

Is it a male thing, to be able to pick up where they left off? In the dating sense? I mean, I can pick up where I left off with my very old best friends. We'd see each other twice a year and catch up on each other's lives but it's like we just met yesterday.

No, I'm talking about a man I was romantically involved with. Parted with for a reason. No communication in the intervening years or months. And suddenly POP! an email.

I know I am generalising, so don't get your panties (or boxers) in a fix, but do men really think that if they leave a woman alone for a while (or more) that things will blow over and everything will be just hunky-dory again? That they can breeze in and say hullo, especially if there's been an acrimonious dispute in the past?
