National Day Fervor

Oh kay.

s'the first time I've ever worked any where quasi-government. First I get "nominated" to participate in this artificially flavoured show of patrotism, now people are actually decorating their desks in enthusiasm. Competing to see who has the best decorated "team" decor. It's weird, I'm telling you.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my country and I'm proud of what we do. Yes, like any other country we have our own problems and yo-yo idiots. But the people I grew up with..... we're not fanatically rabid about shoving our enthusiasm in your face. I'll try and grab some pics from the office, show you what I mean.

I feel..... weird. A little like an outsider, actually.

Although that shouldn't come as surprise. I'm from an English speaking home, it's my mother tongue. I had to learn to speak mandarin and was forced to use it at work, when I first started out. Why? Because I had an Asian face but didn't speak any of the asian languages. I actually had people pick on me because they thought I was a wanna-be white. I learned quickly, I'm telling you.

Strange how certain things never change. Weird.
