I've been following this series on and off for a while now.
It's been an interesting read, whenever the urge takes me. I've always found the Middle East to be a bastion of conservativism, a series of inward-looking, archaic islands all linked solely by religous fevor. Economics is all well and good, but that's because they have oil. Take that away, and what do you have left? Sometimes I wonder if they'll eventually revert to tribalism and a really basic feudal system.
But that's all just hypothetical thinking. I really meant to just speak about their treatment of women. Sometimes I dwell on what it would be like, with my personality and character, to have been born into a society like that. Would I have survived? Would I have been able to hide my often-times defiant self? How would I have played the demure virgin? The submissive little woman? Would I have the courage to fight the conception that women were little more than property and baby-making factories?
I think I'd go crazy.
Natural introvert, learned extrovert.
