First seen on enrevanche, the article "Caring for Your Introvert".
I consistantly score as an INTJ on the Myers Briggs personality test so this article was particularly fun to read. enrevanche has a particularly useful link to the explanation on wikipedia."What is introversion? In its modern sense, the concept goes back to the 1920s and the psychologist Carl Jung. Today it is a mainstay of personality tests, including the widely used Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Introverts are not necessarily shy. Shy people are anxious or frightened or self-excoriating in social settings; introverts generally are not. Introverts are also not misanthropic, though some of us do go along with Sartre as far as to say "Hell is other people at breakfast." Rather, introverts are people who find other people tiring."
People who find other people tiring. Good God. You don't know how much I find that to be true of myself. The proverbial bell went TING!! in my mind when I read that sentence. I especially have an intense dislike for people who consistantly talk non-stop, with stories revolving primarily around themselves. First off, it's sheer rudeness when it comes to hogging the conversation; and secondly, it's sheer selfishness to think most people want to hear about you. Especially upon meeting for the first time.
Hell is other people at breakfast. Heh. I like that too. You're only spared my morning grumpiness if I wake up in your bed.
Needless to say, the MasterChief is safe. No one else is though. :o

*grins* Hey, I read the same article a few days back. Got it from Slawek who was hinting to me - trying to explain why he reacts in a certain manner cuz he is an introvert. Guess there is a wee bit of introvert / extrovert in all of us, but maybe one more dominant that the other. I would have put my money on you as an extrovert dear! :o) Could it be that we have developed a low tolerance for really stupid people?
I too despise yakkers, constantly talking about nothing of import (most themselves) and never listening. They should've been pols or preachers and a few even are.
hey Liza :)
all i can say is..... social conditioning has a lot to be guilty of! haha.
jomama
lord help us - no pun intended - if they become preachers. i know of no surer way to cast a sleeping spell on an entire congregation! lol
