I never did speak about that interview I attended.
It wasn't a dinky ad, it wasn't an employment agency. It was a legit, straight-up company. Only problem was, they advertised for marketing people and what they really wanted were sales people.
During the interview, the guy was speaking to me like I was the one. But yeah! Like he would know just 2 days after advertising. However, as I stepped out of his office, I realised why he was so enthusiastic about me. The rest of the candidates outside looked...... young.
Young men in shirts and slacks, with no tie. Young women in cheap suits (you really can tell on this one!) Hair and clothes not really suitable for a Marketing position; don't even speak about a Sales one.
The guy called again, not half an hour ago, on a blessed SUNDAY afternoon, to ask if I was interested, and so that he could offer me the job. WTF? I must have made more than an impreission. But in Sales? I really don't do sales. Never done Sales in my life. Tried it once, hated it.
What am I going to tell this guy when I reject him?
Natural introvert, learned extrovert.

Tell him the truth - that the job is not what you were hoping for, that you are not comfortable in a sales role, and that you excel in many other areas, but your expereince & skills will be put to much better use somewhere OTHER THAN on his sales team!
Cheers.
