Just a thought.....
..... but aren't we supposed to be at an age where customers are treated like our friends? I used to work with some banks. My contact points never turned up in staid suits. The only jackets I saw were frilly fashionable ones on the ladies and once, a denim jacket on a male client.
But here and now, in my place of work, I've been told my work (my vocabulary, rather!) is too casual. I don't understand it and I probably never will. When your customers are, as a majority, blue collar workers, do you really want to sound cold, formal and distant?
Sometimes I wonder..... I really do.

i have been told the opposite...i am too professional sounding for some of my clients.. that very professional voice is scaring some people. i am all business. it is had to strike up a converstion like you are a friend to someone who is a total stranger.
Hi Tinker - long time no see!
I guess it depends on the industry you're in. FMCG wise, sounding formal doesn't cut it with a lot of customers.....
