Aftermath

Amazing. My faith in humanity is restored a smidgeon.

Good news - interview went well. bad news - not the position as advertised. Still, it's something I can do well, having done it for the last 4 years (CRM). And if they pay me well, it free's me from responsibilities of managership.

But that's not the restoration part. On my way down, for some reason, I had left my wallet on the train. Holy crap. Panic stations! And this was 20 minutes to my interview! Not a good time! Plus the self-beratement that comes with a stupid and careless act.... I had not lost anything (wallet or keys) for prolly close to a decade.

Argh! Focus! Focus!
Aced the interview, second round this Monday. Ok, job #1 done. Now for my damned wallet.

Phone kept buzzing during the interview and I wondered who it was. Turns out it was the train people. Some incredibly good soul had picked it up, and turned it in. All intact, money included. What a job!

To the young Indian nurse who sat next to me on the train, if this was you, thank you!

Hi Rob, second interview this coming week. We shall see how it goes.

Greg, I think I was very VERY lucky that day. I was expecting my wallet to never return. :o

I'm as cynical as anyone, but human nature will occasionally pleasantly surprise you. A few years ago, one of the local newspapers here in New York City ran a series of "experiments" to test the honesty of New York cab passengers and drivers; a reporter "accidentally" left 10 wallets, with IDs in them (but also hefty amounts of cash) in 10 different taxicabs.

If memory serves, in 9 out of 10 cases, a passenger alerted the cab driver about the wallet on the floor in the back of the cab, and the cab driver or passenger contacted the owner. 90% honesty in this day and age is pretty amazing.

wow, barry.
That's an incredible anecdote. 9 out of 10? That's really affirming!
