Killer bees

Killer bees. I've always been curious about them.

They are a danger to people and the surrounding animals, but we don't really get bees in Singapore. Let alone killer bees. So
the article which I read was for general knowledge, in a sense. But I didn't know they were actually man-made. Did you? I didn't. I just thought they were a subspecies which evolved into ferocity. But apparently not.

The Africanized variety was bred by a researcher in Brazil who mated European bees with bees from southern Africa to try to produce a hybrid more tolerant of the tropics. The resulting queens were more aggressive and 26 were released in 1957, breeding with European bees. Swarms of the hybrid bees spread northward.

A day in which we learn something is never lost, yes?

A important note for you. The killer bees have reached Texas and other southern states in America. Keep a eye out for them. it took close to 40 years but they have migrated steadily north since there first release.

Peace
