Mangling

That's what we're exposed to re the english language.
*shakes head*

We have a shitload of new staff in, in preparation for the annual issuance of policyholders statement. Which means us old dogs have the workload spread amongst even more people. Which means I get to read my news online :)

But that's not the point.
The point is our newspapers are mangling the English language with whatever term is "hot" or "catchy". And I just shook my head when I came across celebutante. What the hell is that? I mean, I know what comprises this word but.... sheesh.... where will this stop?

I sometimes despair on this bastardization of language.....

I frequently come across words I've never seen before that get a "what the hell?" reaction. One of Elission's words for example -
borborygmus - elicited such a reaction. I see he gave you a link

It's a mixed bag. Language evolves, which is really, really cool. But it also gets trampled. A lot. I get 500 resumes a week. I know this.

Trust me.
