Emo is not new at all...it's just a kind of really depressing punk music.
Emo is short for "emotional" I'm pretty sure it all started in about 1985 with a Husker Du album. It's comeing back pretty big now with bands like Panic At The Disco and My Chemical Romance.
The fans are usually called Emo kids and they wear scarves and yes, heavy eyeliner...in the 80's it was always the scarves and striped sweaters.
