Meme alert!

Paul tagged me with a meme. My 7 favourite songs. But I don't know what to say. For once, my brain's at a loss. *wry grin*

I should probably explain. I don't buy my music. Yes, I like music. Yes, I like to listen to it. But it's always usually background noise :o I have a grand total of... like... 2 CDs. I have no serious hifi equipment. And what I usually do is surf radio stations. Dismal, to some of you, but there ya go!

I listen to a variety of most stuff and the channels cover oldies (50s, 60s and more), contemporary(90s and all that), classical (I dig Tchaikovsky), and chillout tech/jazz. Oh, and BBC for the sheer heck of it. That pretty much covers it! Heh!

But back to Paul's meme. This one will be hard for me!

(1) This is a tie between Heaven (Bryan Adams) and Love will keep us alive (Eagles).
Primarily because I recorded these 2 songs for the MasterChief for his birthday one year. When he was last here, I asked him and the CD is back home safely tucked away. The songs are loaded on his laptop. But don't hold your breath. If I don't hear from him by 31 July, this list WILL have a new #1. If the relationship manages to work it's way through, then the songs retain their meaning.

(2) KISS (Tom Jones and the Art of Noise)
I enjoy Prince's original, but the cover done by Mr Jones is G U A R A N T E E D to get my ass moving. I don't know of any other song that sounds horny, lusty and primevally hormonally charged all at the same time.

(3) Another tie : Save a prayer or The reflex (both by Duran Duran)
This one brings back memories. Memories of first discovering pop music when I was 11. Of screaming my head of whenever I saw a Duran Duran poster. haha. Of planning a little fashion show at the end of Pri6 when I was 12 years old and watching every single Duran Duran video I could get my hands on. It's .... really reflective of a very happy period in my life :)

(4) I will remember you (Amy Grant)
I realise all these songs reflect an event or a moment of sorts. This one happened to be playing when I received word that my cousin had died. Meng was my age and she was struck with a fever that wouldn't go away. She was finally hospitalised and they then discovered she had leukemia. At that time, we didn't have the capacity to treat her case and they were flying her to the UK. Meng died on the flight there and the telephone operator had to interrupt me on the telephone to speak to someone. This song was playing when they broke the call. And it was ..... so appropriate. I cried my heart out, of course. But whenever I hear this song, I'll sing along and think of Meng. It's bittersweet.

(5) Open arms (Journey)
Because it has a gorgeous melody line, meaningful lyrics and generally symbolises a a whole generation/genre that I love.

So there you go. My 7 favourite songs. Okie, so they're divided into only 5 categories, but sometimes life isn't quite so straight forward :)

Paul,
It took me a long time to sit down and think about it. But I'm quite pleased with my choices :D
