Sent by my favourite aunty - she of the funky attitude and Eurasian husband. :)Have you voted yet? What's your favourite word worth? It could be worth a trip to the UK! Vote for your favourite words and win at www.britishcouncil.org.sg
From 17 April to 3 July 2007, the British Council is celebrating its 60th anniversary in Singapore with an online contest. We are asking Singapore to vote for its Favourite English Words. The contest is the British Council's third project for the Speak Good English Movement for 2006/7.
All you need to do is visit http://www.britishcouncil.org.sg, select your six favourite words from a list of 60 put together by students at the British Council, and you will qualify for the grand prize of a pair of return tickets to the UK. Every 60th participant will also win a prize.
The top 6 words so far are love, family, peace, mum, cool and inspiration. The "60 Favourite Words Campaign" follows a similar poll held globally in 2004 by the British Council, in celebration of its 70th anniversary. 'Mother' was voted as the most beautiful word by some 40,000 overseas voters and learners of English at British Council teaching centres around the world.
So just what are the 60 words?adorable airborne amber brilliant cheerful Christmas chuckle computer cool creative daydream discovery dream dynamite exorbitant family father flip-flop freedom funny genie gorgeous grace haywire highlight hilarious infinity insane inspiration knick-knack knowledge love lucky magic maple money monkey mum mushroom music peace piano ravenous red sapphire sausage serenity sister sizzling sky smithereens soap opera solar souvenir superstitious surprise violet weird wild
Yes, there really are 60 words in there; you should know by now that I am anal enough to go count'em. And some of them are.... definitely some of my favourites. Sausage! Gorgeous! Serenity! And for some reason Violet! But I am willing to bet that if you put my MY personal favourite, it would win hands down. What is it, you ask? Why, Fucktard, of course!
