Aggravating

Today is supposed to be my off day. But I was on standby.

Ok. I am very careful about standbys. If I'm on standby, I won't really make plans just in case I'm activated, and I *will* turn up.

But this morning.....

Call comes in at 7.05am
Fiona, can you come in? We're down 2 people. Ok, no proboems. I turn the waterheater on, set the snooze button, and generally get ready to wake up.

Second call comes in at 7.45am
Fiona, no need lah, go back to bed. Eh? Ok, if you say so!

Third call comes in around 10am.
Fiona, can you come in? The calls are getting heavy.
WTF? Sorry, it may be different people doing the calling, but when the team leaders can't get their act together, then why should I bust my ass? I'd already, by this time, arranged to have lunch with my folks. Mom had set up something so all three kids could meet up with the parrents and I'd already told'em I could attend.

Geez. One of the things that are open to me, if I join this company as perm staff, is the team leader position. But unlike previous companies, the quality of staff is really.... wide ranging. If I'm going to be laden with shit, then the realisation that your peer-level coworkers can't really carry their load isn't exactly reassuring.


Oh well. That'll be a last choice scenario, actually. My temp contract only comes up in Nov so I have a bit of time.


UPDATE
Found out that the people who didn't show up for work weren't even from my section. The 2nd TL who called was from THEIR section and I was told my own TL refused to activate me again. Good for her! And I'm so glad I refused to turn up!
