My parent's 40th wedding anniversary is coming up and we haven't done any concrete planing as yet.
See, my parent's are like me. Or rather, perhaps I've grown up like they are. We don't really plan for spectacular celebrations. Birthdays are oh-mi-gawd-is-tomorrow affairs and there's really very little fuss or drama. :) Which is great, actually!
Anyways, it was during a really casual conversation with my parents that I found out that THIS year was 40. The Big Four Oh. I was thinking that it would be coming up (I am 37 this year, so it's GOT to be close, right?) But oh boy. Not close. It's NOW now. lol.
So I did a little light surfing at work (work, what's that?) and found out that for 40, it's the ruby that's important. All the general ideas go with either a theme1969 or red-themed ideas :o
But more importantly, I cannot seem to find WHY the ruby is the gem of choice. Strange no? Only one single website offered an explanation and it was "Ruby, because rubies are thought to possess an eternal inner flame which is a symbol that the passion in a marriage is still very alive and strong after 40 years together."
I find that a tad lame, but perhaps, if one had to think of symbolism for each and every year it get's a little difficult? Run out of inspiration, perhaps? Ah well. The anniversary date is 9th Augest so perhaps me and my siblings have a wee bit'o time left....
Any ideas?
