Oh my god.
I can't believe it.
I'm all excited.
I bought my first pair of binoculars! w00t!!
See... after work today, me and my colleague were supposed to go crystal hunting. We got lost looking for Race Course Road and ended up in Little India. So of course, we went to Mustaffa Centre.
I'd never been, believe it or not, but I was quite happy to walk around looking like a tourist.
As an aside, it's been about 10 years since I visited Little India and the men there haven't changed. Shanti experienced it herself. She demonstrated how one man *gawked* at my boobs. Yup, I quipped, this is why I always feel dirty when I visit. The best way I can describe it is dogs drooling.
Anyways. BINOCULARS. Good grief, people, I've always wanted a pair and now I do! wahey! Isn't it a beauty?
Granted, it was a cinch to use and it's an easy going, smart, compact little model. But now I feel like I want more. More! Bigger! More fierce looking! Greater distance! Magnify! MAGNIFY, DAMMIT. lol And as I walked to the cashier, I sang happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME-EE... happy birthday to me. hahahahaha. How self indulgent is this then? :))
Damn, the thing is addictive. I'm so happy!

Google Earth shows you needed to go about 700' NW to get there!

I bought a pair about 5 years ago when I got interested in 'introductory' astronomy. I was satisfied, but you can burn through a set of 'AA' batteries in ~2.5 hours. A little higher Mag. and objective.

I have a similar set, less expensive, that I use while hunting, and in fact dragged all over Zambia. Huge deal, to have a longer set of eyes.
I buy 10 power binocs for around $10 a pair and hand them away like candy to friends. THe quality of lens manufacture has changed so much just in the last twenty years that a new pair of chinese made binocs are as nice as a thirty year old pair of Zeiss. Experiment with cheapies of varying powers, and then once you find something you really like, buy a pair of similar Nikons, if you're a poor person, leupold, if you feel like scraping together some cash, or if a rich uncle dies, Swarovski.
Hi Fi. So cool. I was also looking at some pairs at PS today to see what the price range was like. How much did this pair cost you? It's so small and looks light. Wished I had a pair when I was at Sungei Buloh the last time :o( Am going to be better prepared the next round! Cool pressie! :o)
JimBob,
That model of yours looks like it was made for the serious astronomy buff :o Awesome! Plus, list price says... *gasp* $1500?
I'm not THAT ready to splurge that sort of Serious Money. lol
Og,
Thanks for the tip!! But I can't say I found cheapies... I shall start looking around. Mine wasn't too bad though, under SGD$100 so it was still pretty affordable.
It's seriously addictive. Can't hunt (at all) or trek (much) in Singapore, but it's still so much fun :)
Liz,
Babes, I highly recommend it. You and Slawek will really enjoy having them binoculars on your hikes.
I might take off to Changi Village or somewhere close by just to experiment!
