Found this wonderful article on teenage sex entitled "'Am I ready to lose my virginity?".
Basically, it's about 2 fifteen year old girls (and their moms) in a documentary that had them take a road trip and go explore. And by explore, I don't mean practice, but they went out and interviewed people 360 degree fashion and faced up to all interesting viewpoints.
I wish we had that here.
Sexuality is still very much a taboo subject, and I can't help but think that if we were to appproach the topic in a secular, calm, logical manner, our teens here in Singapore would be much better equipped to face it all.
Parents still shirk their duties and leave it to schools to educate their children.
Schools still teach the basics and preach abstinence. I'm not saying they shouldn't, but I also think they shouldn't make abstinence THE focus.
But practically, I think as long as Asians have such a conservative view about sex, it's a never-ending problem that's hard to solve. Which is a terrible pity because I can't shake the feeling that our teens would be more responsible if this was an open topic.
Oh well.
