I'm feeling a tad nervous right about now.
My local docter sees me about once a month for my upset tummy... usually just for me to top up my tummy meds, and it get some time off to rest at home. Problem is, it's been happening for a long time. The speculation is that I have IBS, but apparently it's an illness that's confirmed through the process of elimination. So. A colonoscopy was called for.
Uh hm. I wasn't too keen on this but after putting things off for about 6 months, I finally made it to my Specialist appointment at Changi General today. A tad apprehensive, but heck, I needed to get it all over and done with.
Upshot? Consultation scheduled today, bloody colonoscopy scheduled for tomorrow. Holy shit, Batman, but that's fast! Not only that, the docter has also ordered a gastroscopy. So.... perhaps double dosed Batman? lol. I'm going to be probed from both ends! AAhhhhh!
At any rate, I roughly knew what both procedures were like, and what they entailed, but this evening at work.... ah, the gods must be smiling on me! I can surf, and what's more, I can blog!
So I went online to do some reading up. I'm a little bit more reassured about how tomorrow will go. But at the same time, I am not looking forward to tomorrow morning, when I do my bowel cleansing. :o I'll have to drink 4 litres of some cleansing fluid and I expect to use about a gazillion rolls of toilet paper.
I'm also "fasting" right now, which is hard. I mean..... I wake up, I go to work, and I normally have a full meal at about 1am, when I'm really REALLY hungry. But it'll have to be sliced fish soup for me tonight and nothing else until tomorow evening, when I get to come home. *small sigh*
And that's another cause for concern because if I don't eat, I worry that my old gastric problem will come back. For the longest time, if I'm hungry, I eat. Or get some milk. But now, suddenly allowed nothing but clear fluids like broth or glucose water. Necessary though. Argh! Damned if I do, damned if I don't!
There's only clear silver lining though : I do have private medical insurance for hospital stays and procedures but I won't have to touch it at all. Because I opted for a referral from the polyclinic, I am awarded the subsidies of a citizen. Now, medical costs are an issue : I work for an insurance company, I know in general what a colonoscopy costs privately (approx $1,500). But because of the subsidies, it'll set me back around $450. For both procedures. And it's taken directly from my MediSave. So no cash upfront. Now that's what I call a relief!
Think I'll stop browsing now... some coments left by people who've done a colonoscopy are terrible. lol. No point my worrying about something beyong my control, eh? Also, I know the scopes have a smaller diameter than typical poop, but I can't help imagining myself like the goatse.cx guy lol
Wish me luck!

Luck! Best of luck! Just remember: turn to the colonoscopy-doc at the right time and ask "any sign of the trapped miners, chief?" they love that.
Actually, with any luck you'll be waaaay drugged and won't be able to manage anything more coherent than abree-ar-ar....
I've had the top-down procedure done a couple of times (have pics of the interior) and a pal of mine had the bottom-up procedure (have pics of that interior too)(I'm a teacher and I have visual aids for my classes now). We both survived easily enough. Be of good cheer!

hi John,
Thanks every so much. Actually knowing someone who's done the procedure itself is a bit of a relief!
PS scritches to Maddie please, in way of thanks :)
