Wedding pictures

The wedding of cousin Ruth and Chris.

I've mentioned before that my cousins are at least 12 to 15 years younger. After all, I am 39 in 2011 and it is easy to forget how time passes by so quickly. My friends and peers have kids that would be about 10 years of age by now.

By not marrying and not having kids, it is easy to lose track of the years. Truly. Easy to think I am still young lol I am still young AT HEART but my aging has pre-occupied my thoughts most unusually these last few months.

Anyways. The wedding.

Ruth is the oldest daughter from Uncle Freddy, my mom's brother. Me and my siblings - for various reasons - are not close to our cousins at all. My sister, being 7 years younger than I, tends to get along better with them. Perhaps, as they grow older, so shall I. One can hope.

So the pictures are only a minuscule portion of the pictures taken that day, mostly to commemorate any occasion when my family dresses up lol. It's so rare! Oh. and also because my new phone's camera is pretty nifty. Good-o!

The wedding service missal.

Interestingly enough, 2 observations :
(1) Ruth and Chris planned the entire thing, both church and wedding dinner. And it was surprisingly free of pomp. The Elder who gave the sermon was incredibly listenable, and I enjoyed the thrust of his succinct message - God loves you, so you two better love each other as much. Cool! Perfect for a young couple!
(2) The vows required Ruth to submit to Chris. This didn't seem amiss in the predominantly Christian congregation but it raised my eyebrows. The sister and I turned to look at each other simultaneously too, so it obviously rankled her as well. And as we left the chapel, my mom had something to say about that too. So. I obviously come from a family of independent women. lol

The church ceremony was held at the Methodist Girls School>chapel It was an odd choice of venue, as Ruth wasn't from this school. But I'm sure they had their reasons. And the chapel itself seemed very appropriate.

My sister and I after the wedding ceremony.
Yes, we later realised that we have been coordinated in terms of clothes. I in the blue print, she in the solid blue. And in the evening, I in solid black, she in the black and silver. Ha, perhaps sisterly telepathy? lol

Here she is again, at the dinner that evening.
The dinner itself was held at the Shangri-La Singapore. Because this is a pretty expensive hotel, we thought there would be more pomp in the evening; but surprisingly, no. Wedding dinner was simple, Uncle Freddy sang Butterfly Kisses, there was the mandatory video montage, and only one dress change. No yamsengs or wild cheering. And even after the dress change, it was just that. From wedding gown into evening gown. No jewellery either. A discreet bride? Amazing. lol. But good for her! I found my respect for Ruth increasing :) She has a good head on her shoulders inspite of everything.

Ok, no more rambling. Here's my brother James, and my sis-in-law Regina.

And finally my parents.
I was just reminded yesterday by my sister that Dad was will 70 in 2011.
*small sigh*
I have to keep on reminding myself of that. Not because he's getting on in his age, but because I have to be more patient. With him, with Mom, with everyone. As Faith mentioned, "You have to go past his looks. He's 70 next year, Fiona." She's so right!

And lastly.... argh, I usually have no regrets on anything, but perhaps I have one now. I forgot to ask someone to take a picture of me. I dress up so rarely, it was a pity. I was in a flowy black chiffon gown, with feathers in my hair lol. I'll have to content myself with a picture of my Reg Agate pendant and bracelet :)
I didn't meant to spend a lot of money, but eventually... holy crap. Dress = $200. Jewellery =$1,200 :o

See, I was walking around looking at costume jewelery. This chain of shops, Silvera, does semi precious stones in silver. I walked in just to have a look and they had red pieces in the shade I wanted. I ended up trying on a few just to see and when I tried on this particular piece, I had a reaction to the crystal.

I don't have a lot of crystal pieces, and I've bought both the cheap and the expensive. I've also learnt that when a particular piece of crystal is meant to be mine, it will give me a specific frisson of energy. Which this pendant did. Anyways, mine is mine. And this is easily the most beautiful piece of jewelery I now own. Oh, and largest too... the entire pendant is as long as my thumb lol

Alas, I don't think I can wear it every day!
