Books = lack of money? So right!

Barry has an article that resounds within me.
It's an interesting one and I borrow from his post here :

Mitch Gelman, West Hempstead, New York: “As an accountant, the first thing I tell my clients is ‘Get a library card!’ Otherwise, you’re too subject to temptation, and liable to find yourself in over your head. Few people know that the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States is the ‘Clan of the Cave Bear’ novels. You overspend on one, and, just when you begin to dig yourself out, the next installment comes along. Public libraries began during the Depression as a government measure against this very problem. They’re there for our protection, so we should use them.”

Yes, I am guilty. I feel deprived if I don't have a new novel every month or so. I don't think I overspend on books, I love reading. But I do have friends and a Mom that keep on asking me to get a library card.

But I hate that - you're always stuck in the middle of a series and have to wait ages for the next one in line.

Back in the days when I had money, I'd buy 4 or 5 in one go. Especially if it was a series and MOST ESPECIALLY if the book covers were matching (yes, I'm particularly anally retentive this way). I don't do that anymore, however. That's about a hundred bucks a splurge and I can't afford it on my slave/grunt salary. There are more important things to spend my money on.

But I tell you, I miss the thrill of buying by the series. Damn!
