Argh. I cannot believe it, what my eye is seeing!
Found, on Reuters, the story of a woman from HK who had a leech up her nose.
Apparently, the woman had washed her face in a stream whilst hiking. But excuse me, did you see that thing in the water as you scooped it up towards your face? According to the article, it was a good 2 inches long. 2 inches. Good grief! I mean, when you're gadding about in the great wide outdoors, do you not pay attention to what might potentially enter your various orifices?
I don't do a lot of outdoor camping because ~
(1) The older you get, the more "knowledgable" you are. And I have this paranoia about peeing in the open and having something crawl up my leg.
AND
(2) this is Singapore we're talking about.
We don't have an outdoors on our island. The closest you'll get is a beach. And all our beaches, by now, are sitting "pretty" on reclaimed land anyways. The closest you'll get to wildlife are the children. Heh.
I'm willing to bet this HongKonger was out hiking with facial wash. That's why she had her eyes closed when she washed her face. That's why she didn't see the leach. That's why she had it in her cupped hands and raised it to it's new home for a month.
Either that or she really was silly enough to deserve the leech. ack.
