Consequences

You experiment with sex.
You fool around.
You think it only happens to "bad girls".
Did you think you were
exempt?

" "I've been crying every day and every night. I keep on blaming myself for this," said the 18-year-old Selby, who is six months pregnant. She cries about starting classes this week at Timken Senior High School with a bulging belly, about the emotions of planning an adoption, about becoming part of a statistic that has snagged the nation's attention: 64 of Timken's 490 female students — 13 percent — are pregnant. "

Granted, this is not solely an american problem. Teen pregnancies are a problem in every city, in every country. The only exceptions are possible the Islamic societies where gender segregation is practiced but THAT is another story.

I went to CHIJ Opera Estate Primary, and then on to CHIJ Katong Secondary. I hung out with a bunch of girls who were my "gang" and we migrated like salmon along the traditional routes, as all CHIJ girls do. Because the education system streamed kids according to their capabilities, at 14 I ended up in the Science stream (top 30%) and most of them ended up in the Home Economics strea, (bottom 30%). And we kept in touch through the years, even though we gradually grew further apart because of our new classmates. Last I heard - and this was a long time ago - every single one of them was married before they turned 20. Either because they were pregnant, or had kids already. One girl couldn't even get married in church because her intended was a divorcee with 4 young kids in tow.

I have those memories right until to-day because how horrible is that? Not yet 20 and BANG! instant mother. Not even to your own. Which, at 20, you are probably guaranteed a few more of your own.

Have always believed that you do whatever you want, just be brave enough to face the consequences. Stand up to your just desserts - both good AND bad. Take responsibility. Don't bloody whine about good girls or bad ones. You fucked around. You caught the bullet. You have a fully functioning reproductive system. Don't say you didn't know. In this day and age, I don't bite that

Fact - when you are fertile and having sex, 1 in 4 male ejaculations WILL end in a successful preganancy. Are you that complacent in having unprotected sex?

You're a woman - known your own body. You OWE it to yourself.
