Ick ick ickkity ick

Oh dear. I cannot emphasize how important it is to keep clean. (Some people in my office obviously have difficulty with this concept but that is another story.)

"WASHINGTON - Men are dirtier than women. So scientists confirmed by spying in public restrooms, watching as one-quarter of men left without washing their hands...... In contrast, 90 percent of the women did wash up.

Wednesday's results mark the American Society of Microbiology's latest look at how many people take what is considered the single easiest step to staying healthy: spending 20 seconds rubbing with soap under the faucet.

It also explains why these infection experts tend to use paper towels to open bathroom doors. There is no telling what germs the person before you left on the knob."

Oh boy - that's just (wait for it) shitty. Haha! But seriously. Seriously. It's true that a lot of cases relating to accidental food poisoning has a root cause in bad hygiene. another example - catching of the flu bug. Sure it's contagious, but you've touched something someone else has touched with fingers that have been sneezed into.

On a personal note, I'll press elevator buttons with my knuckles, push doors open with the back of my hand, or pull doors out by hooking my fingers in handles right down to the palms. I never use my fingers or finger tips. It's become so ingrained that I do it automatically. Except for my own home, perhaps, but in the office? Out and about? Absolutely!

Come to think about it, I am wondering about my other weird habits.....

At the end of a long day the men's room at our office is somewhat less than spotless.

However, scattered throughout the building are hand sanitizers on the wall. Unfortunately, I rarely see anybody use them.

Personally, I not only use them, but carry my own in my briefcase.
