NKF

Singaporeans had a huge revelation this year.

One of the nation's foremost charities was found to have been lead by a
fraud. Millions and millions of dollars were donated by generous Singaporeans to the National Kidney Foundation for dialysis patients. But the latest report, in a long and thorough investigation just published by KPMG, revealed that only 10 cents per dollar was going to the patients. The rest? Who the hell knows?

About 4 or 5 years back, I "interviewed" with the NKF for some Marketing/Operations Manager post. The made all the applicants come in for a seminar, and then they broke us up into groups. For group interviews. There were possibly close to 200 of us, for various positions.

At that point in time, I remember feeling incredibly indignant that a middle management post would be subject group sessions. I remember walking out after that with a feeling of disgust and frustration.

In hindsight, which is almost always perfect, it was to be expected that an organization being investigated for fraud and horrible corporate governance would have such lousy HR practices. I am thankful I walked out of that "interview".

But 4 years back? I wanted to smack the person responsible for that incredible waste of time. Mo
re importantly, I'm glad the man responsible, T T Durai, is being brought to his knees. The report just published is meant to be objective. But the punishment soon to be meted by my government will surely make an object lesson out of him.

Patients relying on dialysis cannot have a normal quality of life. Not knowing when you'll receive your transplanted organ, when the queue of needy people is so damned long. People from all walks of life surpported the NKF. Right down to the hawker on the street who gave of his hard earned money. It's incredibly sickening to find something meant for the good of all, squandered for the whims and fancies of a single idiot.

I hope T T Durai rots. For a long time.
