To-day I would have started work at the hotline dept.
Instead they gave me the day off.
Who am I to complain, eh?
I was plonked in front of the TV in the afternoon, idly surfing, when I came across a presentation on the MTV channel. Have to confess, without the 'puter, I didn't even know it was World AIDS Days since I read my news on the web. But I continued to tune it.
It was interesting - they got a bunch of youth to watch varied AIDS commercials and then to voice their thoughts on said commercials. And it got me thinking.
Singapore doesn't have any AIDS campaigns at all. The Govt line is that AIDS is the purview of gay men. It's always been a sore spot with me because I think education is Key. And that AIDS involves *everyone*, not just gay men. More women then men are "gifted" with this terrible afflication. And it does not help one iota that the Asian environment sees parents who are not known for being vocal about sex education.
You think sex education should be taught in schools? Boy, are you wrong. Somethings you have to do yourself. And as a parent, this is one thing YOU should do for YOUR children.
I'm not going to get started - I can feel my blood presure start to elevate already.
*wry grin*
So many things wrong about my country's approach to AIDS awareness!

Yup, the government offices, educational insititutions and even work places are having wrong mindset on AIDS.
It's not even a communicable disease, but remember you have to go through HIV test before you get a job or attend university in SINGAPORE (if a person is positive, he/she can forget about attending uni or getting a job)
Well I wouldn't have known about world aids day if I hadn't read your blog.
You know in the 80's when aids first appeared Ronald Reagan refused to use the words H.I.V or Aids. Sounds like Singapore is keeping the tradition alive.
Peace
Perhaps if more people promoted a conservative lifestyle instead of a liberal lifestyle...
Myo and Greg, SG has a lot of really great things about it. But this is one issue that I have grat onjection tothe way it's being handled.
JustsDog, this is Singapore we're talking about. Not San Francisco.... liberal?
Besides, being liberal has nothing to do with it. You think about it. Liberal folks are often MORE educated on issues that affect their health.
