Do Singaporeans need to worry?

I don't know if this guy's advice is to be taken at face value.

True - Singapore is tiny. So tiny, that we have to reclaim land around the fringes just to build our island up enough to put up our infrastructure. And serious infrastructure it is, as well. We have dibs on airport stature, container shipping volumes, oil rig manufacturing (heh, surprised? lol) and a lot more.

But agreed - we should not be complacent. And it's easy to forget since our geological location is such that we are in one of the safest places on earth. On the planet. I kid you not. We're protected by the land masses of Indonesia and Malaysia. We're sitting right in the centre of that downwards buldge in the European plate.

Sometimes I wonder at us, though..... we're so young as a nation; we've not had a lot to worry about in terms of extreme weather or land movements. It's always been a race for development. Always concerned about economic survival.

Imagine this : we don't farm or produce our own meats and vegetables; we import over half our water supply; we have nothing in terms of ore, minerals or natural resource. Everything is built, bought or brought in from overseas. We're so tiny you won't find us on that map above. But I'm hoping some decent bureaucrat somewhere MAY have thought about it and our physical infrastructure MAY have catered for an earthquake or a tsuinami.

But I wonder if the professor is on to something after all?
