I am slightly stunned. And a tad worried.
The MasterChief mentioned that we may not be in Corpus Christi after all. He mentioned a place called Ingleside. Now, I have only been to the US once (and that, too, to Northern California). And what I know of America is based on news reports and the American expats here. What does a girl do in times like these? She surfs, that's what.
Um.
Oh... kay....
Ingleside, Tx has a population of about 10,000 people. The population density is 37/km²
- does this mean city girl Fiona from densely packed S'pore is going to a slow-paced, small community? I mean.... 37 people per square kilometre.....
- panic stations? Check.
9 protestant churches vs the single roman catholic one.
- does it sound like a god-fearing, stringent place? I mean, the Baptists in SG are uptight enough....
- panic stations? Check. (fuck. That now means No BDSM Clubs For Me, dammit)
Bus Lines : No Local Public Transportation Available
- fuck, I can't drive. You don't need a car in Singapore. Taxis are cheap; bus and trains go everywhere. Am I in trouble now?
- panic stations? Check.
And there's more!
I love him, and I will follow him to the US. But something tells me it will not be an easy transition. Lemme share with you a story.
Visited San Francisco. Beautiful city. But I was bunking over at a friend's place in Aptos. Nice suburb, some beautiful houses out there. Main street/shopping area was a college town place I forget the name of. Did the 17-mile-Carmel-drive thingie. Gorgeous scenery. But by the 10th day, I was distinctly uneasy and I finally realised why.......
No building around me was taller than about 4-5 stories. Pleaded pleaded with friend to drive me to the nearest tall building. lol. Too much open sky. Never knew there was such a thing until I panicked. Ended up having dinner in San Jose that evening. Some restaurant wedged between 2 office buildings and I felt better, believe it or not.
Being Singaporean means you are surrounded by buildings at least 12 stories or more. Even the residential apartments. Landed property i.e. houses are a premium, with most going at least SG$750,000/~ and above. Nanny's house with it's tiny garden would fetch at least a million and a half. Holy shit. I don't want to burden the Masterchief but I think I'm worried.
More info - I need more information......

It's also to own and use a vibrator or any "toy" in TX. Just a heads up....
eh? what?
You cannot own toys in texas???
You know what I mean....adult toys. Maybe you can't sell them, but Texas likes to have its control over its residents.
Rob, I knew *exactly* what you meant! Doesn't matter though - I intend to smuggle mine in then!
That could make for a fun time at Customs.
Fiona, I just looked at Google Maps, and Ingleside is just on the other side of the bay from Corpus Christi - you'll be living at the beach, and I wouldn't imagine that there would be a huge difference.
And you'll be a reasonable drive or a short, cheap flight from what are, for my money, the two most interesting cities in Texas (San Antonio and Austin), and a cheap flight from both Dallas and Houston.
Driving time from Ingleside to San Antonio: 161 mi (about 2 hours 48 mins)
Airfare as of 1/20 from Corpus Christi to Austin or San Antonio: numerous airlines offering $150 round-trip
Airfare as of 1/20 from Corpus Christi to Dallas: $214 round-trip on American.
You might find that small-town life agrees with you, and the nearby cities of San Antonio and Austin are both very cool places in my opinion. (And that's a New Yorker saying that.)
Hi Barry,
Guess I'm just a little worried. Not only a new country, but a totally new environment. SG doesn't have an equivalent to Ingleside.
Thanks for the encouragement! I'm not in the league of a New Yorker so I think your comment was very effective! Felt a little better after reading it. haha :)
