There's a pair of Orioles living behind my block.
I know there are 2, because they have been calling to each other for the past 2 weeks. One suspects that they've picked out a tree nearby and are nestbuilding. How cool is that? :) I love these birds.
They're very beautiful but also extremely shy. They'll perch high up, nestled amongst the foilage and all you'll hear is their amazingly melodious call.
When I was last at the beach with Bernie, I saw a pair dive-bombing a bunch of crows that had ventured close to their nesting tree. Brave buggers! The crows are approx 2 or 2.5 time larger than they are. But yup - flashes of bright yellow darting about in the sun. I love watching them!
I suspect one reason I love them so much is because when I grew up in Nanny's house, it was kampung all around back then. And we had our own pair of Orioles nexting in Nanny's magnificant mango tree.
MMmmmmm - peaceful.
