Reality

When you're in your 80s, wouldn't you want freedom? You know your time is up soon, you want to live life, do what you want, and bugger everything else. And then there is this article:

Dr. Robert Guild, 71, says the law is forcing him and other smokers at the Maplewood Gardens Retirement Apartments — some in wheelchairs and walkers — to brave an ice- and snow-covered lawn to get to a structure that is far enough away from the retirement facility to meet the ban's requirements.....

..... The state's new smoking ban, which went into effect Dec. 8, is the strictest in the country. In addition to banning smoking indoors, it requires a 25-foot smoke-free buffer around doorways, windows that open and ventilation intakes.

What a damned pity.
Some overzealous do-gooder gathers up fanatics to push a bill through; as a local govt, you lose your revenue; and your impose your morals on a bunch of folk who will pass on in no time at all.

I understand the intention behind the law. I just think it needs to be liberally peppered with a good thumping dose of reality.

I feel bad for these folk.

This proves that common sense isn't so common.

I am sure that they are "concerned" for the health of their inmates, oh I mean, patients!

Don't feel bad. I'm a smoker, and we have the same law here. 25 feet really isn't that much. We make the choice to smoke, and in making that choice, we make the choice to have to follow the laws and rules that go along with it.

Well, they have gored my ox. I think they should ban other "inconvienent" activities also. Like using CELL PHONES indoors. They are damned annoying when used on a enclosed elevator..

The ban includes the loading dock too!

cube : like you would not believe. Mankind is destined to shot itself in the foot and devolve one of these days....

Travel Italy : I like you choice of words. lol

Amanda : I don't disagree with the intent. However, I DO feel they're out of touch with reality. This facility in particular had a specifically constructed room with it's own filtration/ventilation system.

Ach, JimBob : I WOULD LOVE TO BAN CELL PHONES. lol.
