Happy birthday Mom.

Made it through the week. I feel beat. :o

But tonight.... tonight the family is off to the Goodwood Park Hotel. My Mom will turn 60 next week and my Dad has decided to splurge for a treat. 3 tables, family from both sides, so it'll be a little like a chinese new year gathering, but go Mom! She's banned all the kids. haha.

Isn't it funny, how life passes us by? You toddle along, doing your own thing. And suddenly a milestone creeps up on you and you wonder where all the time went. All those years you spent caring for family, bringing up kids, protecting and nurturing as best you can?

My Mom's been through a lot. She's fought Cancer, spinal, eyesight and gastro-intestinal issues for the last 15 years. And finally tennis elbow, from standing and writing on a blackboard all those long years as a teacher.

We've had an extremely unstable relationship, my Mom and I. Prickly, distant and sometimes very tempestuous. But one year, she happened to mention that out of all her 3 children, I was the one she knew could take care of herself the best. From my Mom? Holy shit.... magnificant high praise indeed.

Happy birthday Mom.

UPDATE
Back home, stuffed and happy. Mom had a fab time.
But the 2 grandmas had an even better time! Nanny doesn't speak cantonese. PorPor doesn't speak english. But they found time to shake and hold hands for a bit, huge smiles plastered on their aged faces. That was *my* gavourite part of the evening.
