In pre-communist China, sex was less a taboo than it became under former leader Mao Zedong, whose own highly active -- and disease-ridden -- love life was chronicled by his doctor in a book banned in China. Under Mao, sex was officially a matter of doing one's reproductive duty for the state. He wanted a new labor force to build a new country and the state encouraged high birth rates. They need to change faster, health experts say. There has been a huge rise in pre-marital and teenage sex. According to state media, 70 percent of urban youth admitted to having premarital sex in 2004, up from just 15 percent in 1989.
I was talking about sex a a few posts back. Here's another article which proved a point.
Since then, the government has embarked upon a stern family planning policy to control a booming population -- the world's largest -- but official attitudes toward sex remain puritan, though they are changing slowly.
I have always believed education is key. Singapore may have some form of sex education. But it's all centred on scaring the youth. They give you slim pamphlets on STDs, show you the graphic pictures, teach you the biological names of your reproductive organs and that's it. And those are the schools.
Besides, it should not be their job anyways!
IF you come from a modern, enlighteded family, your parents will fill you in on the necessary. Such as communication, self respect, dignity, and that sex is best left for when you are *ready*.
If you're not - and we're talking the majority here - you're left to flounder in a sea of misinformation and gross exaggeration. From bad porn, to sordid stories from someone's elder brother's best friend's uncle.
And I find it highly ironic that old OLD civilisations like China and India have moved from being some of the more liberal societies, to one of "old" puritanical virtues. Concubines? China! Where they were taught the old skills.
What I wouldn't give to learn a miserable 1% of their techniques.
Natural introvert, learned extrovert.

I have a 15 year old and a 9 year old it is a challenge trying to teach them to be safe. I know they will or are going to engage is sex but I hope that some of what we have taught them will sink in.My wife and I are pretty open to sex and pay attention to what is happening in there lives so I hope that teenage pregnancy is not a problem with us. Time will tell though.
Peace
Oh Greg.
I suspect you'd make a pretty cool Dad. And Mrs Greg must be pretty good stuff herself to have married you.
