Hundreds of Britons are being urged to attend what is being branded as Europe's first "Masturbate-a-thon", a leading reproductive healthcare charity said on Friday.

Marie Stopes International, which is hosting the event with HIV/ AIDS charity the Terrence Higgins Trust, said it expected up to 200 people to attend the sponsored masturbation session in Clerkenwell, central London, on Saturday.

"It is a bit of a publicity stunt but we hope it will raise awareness," a Marie Stopes spokeswoman told Reuters.

All fun aside, something serious to point out :
Have you any idea how hard it is for a woman to finger herself in front of someone? Or use a toy? Now take that, and put her in a room full of strangers.

For some reason, masturbation is private for a woman. STILL private, in this day and age. Having an orgasm requires a certain amount of letting go. Even in a normal, private context. So I cannot fathom going in to a room and having people around me all going at it :o

There's a reason it's sometimes used as a punishment (or an enticement, depending on your viewpoint) in BDSM. The sheer excitement of being made to do it, the thrill of being a toy with no say in the matter. That's the exciting part. The punishment is if you're made to do it in a room full of clothed people. That's the punishment. Quite possibly, you have to be there to understand it.
