Wow. A riot. In DENMARK? How bizarre is that?Police said they arrested about 100 activists in raids on houses, schools and hostels. About half were foreigners who police said would be expelled. Earlier on Saturday, 2,000 people attended a peaceful demonstration.
Left-wing activists have occupied the youth centre in the Noerrebro district since 1982, but it was sold by the city in 2000 to a Christian fundamentalist group. That group obtained a court eviction order last year - but the activists vowed not to leave, saying the council had no right to sell the building while it was still in use.
Ah. Illegal immigrants. How lovely.
I have some pretty stong views on this and I always wonder what on earth these people are thinking. You steal into someone's country, you break all kinds of law by your very presence. And then you think it qualifies you for all sorts of perks meant for citizens? Law abiding, tax paying citizens?
And the local idiots who this this is ok. I'm willing to bet anything you want these are the same idiots who aren't steady, contributing members of society. Malingerers, the lot of'em!
I am all for global citizenship. All for moving to where the work is. All for repopulating of countries. Love the fact that ethinic lines are blurring. And as a Singaporean, repopulating a nation by immigration is a matter that's very close to my heart. but if you're an illegal?
A swift boot up the arse on your way out, thank you very much.

I think it's a bit more complicated than that, at least in the U.S. If we're going to RELY on "illegal immigrants" than we have to create a system that allows for this.
In the USA immigration laws are enforced haphazardly and our borders are wide open. Once the illegals are here you cannot get rid of them. Singapore take note ! :)To my mind illegal aliens should not have the same rights as a citizen and they should not benefit fromsocial programs either, but the left/Liberal folks here fawn over them ad nauseum.
Rich,
It is certainly much more complicated than my brief, ranty summation.
But it's a mix of factors.... from protectionism, unions, wages, and a labour shortage for whatever reasons (prevalent in some form or manner in every developed country) to countries with corrupt or inept governments, a desperate population in mostly agrarian communities, low low education levels and a willingness to do tasks which the native population is reluctant to.
One country's government can't influence another country's politics and governance, so I feel the only way out for one's own country is control. Strong control. Deterrence.
Hence my stand against illegal labour.
Paul,
My current government views illegal immigration as a serious impingement of our laws. Deportations are very common.
However, we take in the legit ones very quickly as well. Our drive to push our population levels up will encompass people of all nationalities and skillsets.
Very good Fiona :)
