I wondered, deep in my heart, if I'd be bored.
No, seriously.
I'm terribly independant. I do almost everything on my own now. About the only thing I cannot bring myself to do is go to a bar or club alone... although... since I don't club anymore that's not really a problem. *wry grin* Oh, I'd taken short holidays on my own but typically only for about 4 or 5 days. Now, I was going to be myself for 7 days with no one but staff to speak to. And I don't speak Thai.
Strangely enough, I enjoyed myself. Each and every moment. There was one heart-stopping moment when the aircon died on me in a loud hiss, bang and gurgle at about 10pm one night. I had been washing my hands in the bathroom at that time and I *really* jumped. It's incredibly quiet at night and being the only person in the building didn't help.
But when I realised it was just the aircon compressor, no problems. Night manager spoke english, and we opened up the adjoining room and voilà, I had a suite for the night. lol.
Banburee is in the midst of an old coconut plantation.... The island is blessed with fantastic weather, even during this - it's off peak and supposedly rainy seasion - and I had perfect blue skies every day.
I had a three-hour breakfast on my first morning there. And since I was the only one, I had the best seat in the house. w00t!
Banburee may not be 5 star luxury, but the unmistakable Thai sense of style prevaded everything. Kudos to them!
The patience to do this every day. Amazing. I wondered :
- since I sat at the same same table every day at least twice
- I decided to test and pull out napkins from one angle only
- would they notice? if I were the only guest so regular?
Nope, each morning, I would find a perfect bouquet of napkins :)) Well done, guys!
By the way, Jens was so tickled by this :
Directly above it, was "Russian Salad". Heh. I guess we now know where most of Banburees western guests come from!
I also found this wonderful flowering palm just next to me. I'd never seen it before. In fact, I could have sworn it was a papaya tree flower if I'd not seen the actual shrub. lol
By the way, Koh Samui has some of the most beautiful sunsets I'd ever seen.
When each day ends so perfectly, you cannot help but just allow yourself to sink into the tranquility of it all. Granted, some people cannot holiday in peace and need malls and shit to complete their stay....but... I think they're really missing out. There really is more to life than all that busy-ness!
Speaking of missing, I had missed my Thai Green curry! So whilst there, I must have ordered it, like 4 times. lol. I am a happy camper! Yay! I didn't take pics of that, but I did have my camera when I tried their thai fried rice. NOM nom nom nom nom!
Lest you think I just slept, ate and baked in the sun for all that time, there's more to come!
UPDATE :
The Sister asked if I had taken these pics myself. And yes, I'm quite happy to say that I did! Yay! If I ever fall flat on my face re work, I can do the I'm-dirt-poor-please-buy-my-pics spiel. ;)
