Oh wow - I didn't know that 2009 was the International Year of Astronomy 2009
It marks the "400th anniversary of the first astronomical observation through a telescope by Galileo" and it's being co-ordinated by the good people from International Astronomical Union and UNESCO. There's a whole bunch of stuff going in a whole lot of countries! And if you're interested, now's a great time to get off your butt.
We've even got participation going on in Singapore, which is a miracle. Being an island state, with pretty much every locale lit, light pollution really doesn't help when you're interested in astronomy :o But by Io, participation, we've got. Check out this link for the (limited) range of activities that have been scheduled. Kudos, you guys, for taking this on. It cannot have been easy for you lot. Go TASOS!
Now, I might even get off MY butt for some of the things.... I'm rather daunted by the 1.5 hr public transport commute to the Singapore Science Centre, but we'll see...
It might be rather worth my while :)
