And so it is done

Well, I went and did both my scopes on Thursday.

Actually, it was easy peasy. Once they started the sedation, I fell asleep in what seemed like seconds. Completely knocked out. Didn't feel a thing. Ok, so I worked the night before, and hadn't really had a chance to sleep. Means I was already tired when I went to the hospital. With the drugs? Heck, didn't need any nudging; my body must have parachuted into sleep! Good-o! So no problems there. Woke up as they were wheeling me into the recovery room. Like I said,m easy peasy, and I am very very very grateful.

The hardest part must've been taking the cleansing solution, which tasted horrible and which I had to down in copious amounts.

I didn't take the full 4 litres, only about 3.5. I just couldn't take the stuff any more.... And at the end, I noticed as I flushed the loo that it bloody FOAMED. Same thing happened to my liquid container too, when I washed it out. It FOAMED. So. I take it that at the end, the solution passed right thought my system... from my lips to the toilet bowl. lol. I also recall that one of the ingredients of the solution was bicarbonate soda.

Isn't that used to clean ovens and stuff? Ho crap, no wonder my ass was sore even before the colonoscopy!

The OTHER thing was the bloody cannula. It *stung* when they inserted it. I always turn my head away when a needle is introduced to my protesting body. I simply can't look when I get injected or pricked. Once it's in, though, I'm ok, and can observe things dispassionately.

Interesting thing is that once it's in, you can't feel the plastic tubing that's inserted into your vein. Trust me, I tried to feel for it. My sister came to pick me up after; and as I was sitting up trying to shake the sleepies, I kept on touching my hand."Leave it the hell alone, Fiona!" Yes, Nurse Faith is.... Nurse Faith. :)) Again, I am grateful.

Oh, and when the attending nurse came to withdraw the cannula, I watched as she drew it out. Which was a tad shocking because it turned out that I had about an inch of plastic tubing in my vein which I couldn't feel, but which I definitely gawked at, once removed :o

All in all, it couldn't have gone smoother. A touch of soreness in the throat from the gastroscopy, and a little broken skin from the colonoscopy; but back to work the next day, and all gone by Saturday.

Now I have to wait for test results. Exciting, eh?

Very pleased it went well, my prayers for good results!

if you were going to have a sore backside, it seems unfair that you didn't get to have any fun doing it.
