MBA

MBA was born 16 years ago.
No, it's not what you think - it actually stands for Mega Bitches Association. Allow me to explain.

Joined the Tampines Junior College (TPJC) in 1989 to do my As. For those of you who don't know, the Singapore education system is modelled after the British one and we do the O and A levels at 16 and 18 respectively. Sort of like junior and senior high, for you Americans.

Anyways..... TPJC.
There, I met 2 crazy girls in my class, L and M. We clicked like nothing I'd ever experienced before. We were in the Arts faculty. Even worse, we were all Geography majors. Heh! Then found out that B (you guys
know B) was there too, but in the Commerce faculty. It didn't matter.

The 4 of us were tight as shit.

Then fate sealed our friendship water-tight when all 4 of us ran for Student Council. Yeah, we all got elected. Holy shit, was the school in trouble. We had the most raucous (but meticulously planned) campaigns and, of course, we all got elected. We organised school events together, planned funfair events together, attended (and skipped) classes together. We got together for karom games that went on for hours. We wove our own, special friendship bracelets and refused to weave them for others who wanted in. Didn't matter what happened in school.

The 4 of us were tight as shit.

We called everyone "motherfucker". Damn, we were everywhere. Our friends, in retaliation, called us Mega Bitches. We got so (ahem) well known that some of the more liberal teachers used to call us MBA as well. And so a new entity was born.

The 4 of us were tight as shit.

MBA took on a life of it's own. We were bloody inseperable. We did everythng togeher. And we lasted too. Even after the 2 years in TPJC, we stuck it out together. We celebrated our 21st birthdays together. We watched each other grow up, fall in love, fall OUT of love, get married, have kids. Watched each other take on 4 totally different life paths. Become respected members of society.

L became a teacher who's one of the youngest school HoDs I know off.
M became a lawyer who's an artsy-fartsy mom to two beautiful children.
B was a marketing specialist who quit to work for the Church.
And me? I became a mktg services specialist. Now free-lance bum.

The 4 of us are STILL tight as shit.

Now we celebrate MBA day every year. We celebrate MBA day in acknowledgement of friendships that have endured tears, blood, sweat, heartbreak, dramatic events, accidents, births and deaths. We celebrate what life has given us in friends who are always there, no matter how often, or how little, we meet. We pick up where we last left off. We celebrate the essence of steel-strong friendships.

We celebrate MBA day this Sat and I cannot wait.
