Holy shit - I've just seen The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
For the record, what seems to be over half the movie takes place in a courtroom. But it is interesting and arresting nonetheless. I understand that it is based on a true story and therein lies it's appeal.
The central character may be from a staunch RC family, but the defending attourney starts out as a self declared agnostic. Prosecuting attourney is, though, and the contrast of a man of faith gunning for the guilty plea, for a man of the cloth, was but one of the touches which made this movie intensely watchable.
The horror bits, were..... well..... I found myself trying to make as small a ball on the cinema seat as possible. Crap. I cannot remember when a move last spooked me so much. No levitation, no green vomit, no 180 degree head turning, nothing much in terms of fancy-pancy special effects. Just good old fashioned acting, cinematographry and a bloody good story.
Certain parts of the film will strike a chord with Catholics, though. I must confess, I found the movie's ending rather tought provoking. No shit? In a Hollywood film?
Verily, I saith unto thee - I shit thee not.
PS - 2 rows in front of me were a family. Parents with 2 young children in tow. What kind of fucktard parents bring kids to watch a horror movie at 9.30pm?
Natural introvert, learned extrovert.
