F P W L _ Day 3

Day 3. Ah, day 3!

That day was very very special for the locals - it was Children's Day in Phuket. We have the same here in Singapapore and, no doubt, there's one in every country. But we really got into this with Steve since he is very heavily involved with the local community and was even building a school there.

Sat morning there was a celebration at a local temple (wat) and Bernie and Steve took off. The expats that are there know what the local children go through and give generously when the occasion calls for it. 3 schools were going to be celebrating this and I would have gone as well but decided to stay home and just chill. Bernie has a vested interest in kids since she works with them so extensively and this was right up her alley :)

But hey!
DOH!
I had the house to myself! Nekked suntanning! whoohoo! No pics though! You lot will have to be content with this shot from where I lay. I might have flashed the gardener though. lol

That's the hot hot Thai sun blessing me all over as I lay by the pool. Heh.

Afternoon was even more lazy suntanning. You know, we'd been in Phuket 3 days and hadn't even had an interest in going to the beach. But truly, we didn't have any urges. You step out of bedroom, straight into the pool. All the privacy we could ask for. We didn't have to wear anything at home except for our bikinis. Beach? Crowded with tourists? Yeah, you can keep it. lol.

Here's me getting burnt in the afternoon. Yes, all squashed against that flotation device. Hell. I AM a flotation device all by myself.

But the evening... ah, that evening was different. We took off for even more Children's Day celebrations. Just down the road from Steve's estate was a local community that had a big do that night. We turned down a dark dirt road and suddenly came to lights. Lots of lights. Lots of pretty pretty lights :)

The kids had a ball. We were seated near the back where it was cooler and there were local delicacies being offered and all we could hear were the kids screaming in joy. I couldn't resist and HAD to go closer and take a look. ahHA! They were playing musical chairs! Who can resist musical chairs!

And some of the prezzies that were going to the kids. The donors are called up to present the gifts to the child but Steve.... I think Steve was giving some of the bigger gifts and as a VIP, was left as one of the last few to be called. We didn't stay the entire night, just a couple of hours, but I managed to get a shot of all the goodies that were being distributed.

Oh hey, there was a prata stall at the dinner! Except.... holy shit, this guy was serving it up not with curry or meat or lentils. But with condensed milk! hahahahha! CONDENSED MILK. Prata is made with
ghee and carries, like, a gazillion calories and to serve it up with condensed milk was positively wicked. Yeah! OH yeah! We had two each! lol.
No, I don't know who that guy is in the back but he needs to be smacked.

Then from kids, we moved to discos. Local nightlife!!
We took in 5, if I recall correctly and I do have some pics. But it's different in Phuket.

Aw hell, here you go.

It's interesting in Phuket. Loads of little hole-in-the-wall joints. Often it's a small venue. One came very close to being called a shack (Laguna) that looked, well, like a beach hut. The cliental were different from what we were used to. But it played the best damned music I'd hear from any joint in a long time.

Here are 2 other examples :

Hawaii Bar

Wasn't kidding about small.

Moonlight bar - check out the PlayBoy bunnies. lol.

Mama Lek, who runs Moonlight. That's one unknown guy, Mama Lek, Steve and Bernie.

Then there was Icon. What Steve called a Singapore style disco. Damn, this was the only place I got up to dance. I can't help it! I like music but I'm an electronica girl at heart!

We had a lot of fun with Bernie's dress that day. We couldn't see her, but we could see her polka-dots! lol

Off home at 4 in the morning. It was a beautiful night. We have terrible light pollution in Singapore, we're so built up. But Phuket.... wow. That night was gorgeous! Clear skies, little moonlight, no clouds, and stars stars stars everywhere! I was lucky - I managed to see, very distinctly, the big dipper. And I was just blown away. I can see why people fall headlong into astronomy.

But it was a tad bittersweet, eh? We were off home the next day.
