Yup, that's right. Went for the interview. Feel good about it actually. Whether they actually want me or not is an entirely different story, of course, but it's done.
And I have to tell you a few things :
When I first saw the building, I had a total shock. It looks like one of those old flatted factories along Paya Lebar or Ubi. As far as modern buildings, this one was old, derelict, shabby and generally ought to be burnt down. Ok. Not a good start. But this company is listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange so perhaps their money is all parked in ..... other things?
The reception area of the office was another shocker. Think Old Chinese Shipping Company from the '70s. All dark wood panels, dim spotlight lighting, staid leather sofas, models of the the company's properties (they are also a property developer) scattered at "strategic" locations. My god, I have never seen the like. lol. All the company's I have worked for in the past have strived for a modern look. It might be modern chrome, or modern happening, or modern zippy. But modern! lol.
This will take some getting used to, if I get the job......
Interview was OK. I'd rate it, for myself, 7 out of 10, if only because I know I have the skills to take this one. It's for the position of CRM manager and it's for their fashion lines - the other business unit - and it sounds like fun! It's RIGHT up my alley. A newly created position, for about 17 different brands, it'll be a one man show and I expect whomever they pick to hit the ground running. They'll have to scrutinise the data, merge the tiny individual programmes currently running for the separate brands, manage the CRM software vendor and the partner vendors that will have to be invited to participate. Integrate integrate integrate. A chance to get my hands dirty DOING stuff and a chance to exercise my brain THINKING about stuff. Yum yum yum. Definitely positively fun!!
Best part? I won't have to be responsible for anyone. Yet. A one man show to get this whole thing started. Possible subordinates when it grows huge. And it WILL grow. It's got so much potential! Like the woman said, they have a lot of fashion marketers, but very few dealing with data analytics. Obviously I am hoping to be their It Girl. Heh.
I have now leaped from being curious, to wanting this job. lol.
Oh, and the last thing that happened? On my way out? My damned shoe broke. The sole just parted with the leather upper. How lucky was I that it didn't happen whilst I was inside the building doing my interview?See? Just slipped off. But I guess nothing a little shoe glue can't fix :)
Downside? They - being a traditional local company - view my time spent in different departments within the same company as job hopping. I don't get this one. In my very first job, I was lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to try new things. I started off as a telemarketer. Did that for 6 months. Then I did research work for events. Lasted another 6 months. Then I requested for event administration and got it. And I stuck it out for 2 years. All within the same company. That's job hopping? I just don't get this one. Still, perhaps I am used to a different breed of company.
It doesn't matter, it's all good! I'm feeling good about it! I was comfortable during the process, I have a good idea of what I can "sell" about myself, I am also reminded of what my perceived or real bad points are. You know what they say about interviews, sometimes it's used for gauging what needs polishing for the NEXT interview.
So whatever happens, happens. I was thinking of waiting for July to come around before looking for serious work. Give the MasterChief a chance to show up. Whatever job I take on next will be for real and I have no wish to move and than have to quit in a few months time again because of him. But after to-day?
It's going to be really hard to be patient and wait for July!
