Wedding - Tea Ceremony

The tea ceremony.
Ah.
Tradition!

BWAHAHAHAHAHHAA. Who am I kidding?

My mom is one of the most secular Chinese women I know of :) Still, the night before, James had popped by. Apparently, the inlaws - being our extreme polar opposites - had sent James over with the chinese fu symbol. It's normally put up during the Chinese Lunar New Year as it signifies good fortune, prosperity and wealth; people put it up to attract it to their homes. And yes, the inlaws wanted us to put them up. What? But we have red curtains, red tablecloths, a red carpet, isn't it enough? We all grinned.

Good old'Mom. She agreed, but stated most emphatically that it would be taken down the day after. So for a while, we were a chinese home. These were scattered inside the house in about 3locations too!

The arrival of the entourage. Oh my goodness, I had no idea they would arrive about 20 strong.

Dad with the oranges, which also symbolise good fortune.

The tea ceremony set awaiting the honours.

Serving Nan. (Unfortunately, there was one more Grandma but I missed the opportunity to take PorPor as well.) For some reason, part of the entourage that arrived included 2 OTHER camera men and 1 video guy. Whew. All jostling for a view!

Serving my parents. Interestingly enough, my folks added a twist to this traditional ceremony. After they had sipped, they stood and gave James & Regina their blessings. Formally. In a prayer. Wow. That was great! It was beautiful! I just wish I could have captured the prayer my parents said over James and Regina. I do have a video clip of this but shit, file's too large to upload. Plus the conversations are, alas, too soft. But still, if anyone knows of a video compression tool, I will be eternally grateful!

This is only part of the crowd that thronged my apartment.

The mandatory after-the-affair pictures commenced shortly after the throng were being fed. :)

This is the Hogan side, about half.

This is the Boey side, about one fifth. lol. Yup, Mom had 10 siblings!

And this is MY family. Complete. No, we didn't agree to wear green. I don'y know how or why, but we just decided to all wear green that day.

Wow. My brother's getting married. :)

Og,
It's not a very large apartment; it's only about 1700 sq feet.

And that sofa my parent's are sitting in? It's outlasted 3 leather sofas and is older than I am!! It's close to 40 years old :D
